Drift
This outdoor immersive theatre production was created by the Edinburgh based company Vision Mechanics. I worked with Vision Mechanics from 2014 to 2018 on several productions, the most significant of which being Drift in 2015. This show asked its audience to explore a series of installations, whilst listening to the true story of a Betty Mouat, who was stranded alone on a ship that drifted from Scotland to Norway over seven days in 1886.
My contribution to the production was a series of three wood-burned zoetropes, that were designed to reflect the passing of time experienced by Betty as the days continued in her isolation. Drift was nominated for Best Design at the 2015 Critics’ Award for Theatre in Scotland.
Above is video tour of the Drift installation. You can find my zoetropes at 0:50. I created them by first animating the loops digitally, before burning them onto wood and bending it around a revolving base.
