Outline
This lecture course invited students to gain insight into the world of animation. Over a four week period, participants were shown a curated series of films that chart the progression of the versatile medium of animation. We began by looking back to the early 20th century, where the craft of animation was developed and refined, and over four weeks made our way to the present day industry. Both mainstream feature films and independent short films were analysed to take in the full spectrum of animation's rich history.

We also used animation as a lens with which to view wider cultural issues. Investigating topics such as the value of storytelling, the line between art and entertainment, and how industry adapts to new technologies. Each lesson began by viewing a work of animation that introduces a topic for further discussion.
The course covered eight distinct areas of animation:

Pre-film  & Silent Era Animation
The Golden age
The Animation Renaissance
